CODE BAUBLE - Cryptex Christmas Ornament ========================================= Dial a 5-letter word on the five rings and the gift capsule slides out of the bauble. Ø86 mm ornament, 27 symbols per ring (A-Z + star), 5 code rings, hidden gift space about Ø40 x 44 mm. No supports, no glue. Designed by Alex Tosetto. Rings 1-2, the capsule and the bottom cap are already placed upside down on purpose - print as placed. HOW IT WORKS Every ring sits on a hidden sleeve. Each sleeve has a channel; the capsule has five teeth. Only when all five channels line up under the gold pointer can the capsule come out. Each sleeve also has three false gates, so you can't feel your way to the code. Small key tabs lock both caps while the bauble is closed, so it can't be opened by unscrewing a cap. SET YOUR CODE (default in the photos: NOEL + star) 1. Pick a 5-symbol word. Ring 5 is the TOP ring, so the word reads top to bottom. 2. For each ring, drop its sleeve in from the top so the sleeve channel sits right behind your letter. (Ring 5 + sleeve 5 for the first letter, down to ring 1 + sleeve 1 for the last.) 3. Slide the ring/sleeve pairs onto the body from the bottom: pair 5 first, then 4, 3, 2, 1. The tooth slot of the body is the pointer side. 4. Push the bottom cap on and twist it 30 degrees to lock (gold arrow lines up with the top arrow). 5. Load your gift into the capsule, twist the top cap onto it, dial the code and slide it in. OPEN IT Turn every ring until your word reads between the two gold arrows, then pull the top cap up. To change the code, open the bauble first, then twist off the bottom cap. TIPS Turn each ring until it clicks - there is one click per letter. If the rings are tight, run a few full turns of each ring before the first lock. License: CC BY-NC-SA 4.0
