GABLENEST R01 | MARGRAF ITALY Compact paintable shelter for the Holy Family ENGLISH GableNest is an original compact shelter with an open gabled front, a paintable rear wall, a base with a broad footprint and two identical roof panels. The separate Holy Family figures belong to the MARGRAF ITALY nativity project and are not included in this structural kit. Use those figures at their original 100% scale. Assembled design envelope: 165 x 125 x approximately 131 mm. Five structural pieces, four unique structural STL files: 1 x GableNest_Base_R01.stl 165 x 125 x 5 mm 1 x GableNest_Back_Wall_R01.stl 140 x 125 x 5 mm 1 x GableNest_Front_Portal_R01.stl 140 x 125 x 5 mm 2 x GableNest_Roof_Panel_PRINT_2_R01.stl 86.7 x 122 x 7 mm each Two accessory test pieces are also supplied: 1 x GableNest_Fit_Coupon_Male_R01.stl 1 x GableNest_Fit_Coupon_Female_R01.stl The coupons are part of this project, not separate decorative models. Print the coupons before committing to the full kit. The male piece has the 3 mm base tongue on one edge and the 1.6 mm roof tongue on the opposite edge. The female piece has the deeper base socket in its thicker half, and the roof socket between two raised retaining cheeks in its thinner half. Test each coupling separately; the two coupon pieces do not form a complete miniature shelter. The socket and tongue geometry is shared with the structural parts. Nominal design clearance is 0.35 mm per side. The base socket has a 0.45 mm entrance chamfer, the roof socket a 0.35 mm chamfer. Printer calibration and material affect the result. Keep mating faces free of paint until the fit has been checked. Do not force the joints; adjust the process using the coupons. The supplied orientations put each part's wide flat face at Z=0. Keep the roof panel's broad exterior face on the bed, with the retaining cheeks pointing up. Its engraved wood seams are shallow recesses in that exterior face. Every STL contains one connected closed part. Maximum intended print footprint is 165 x 125 mm; confirm your printer's usable area, including brim and clearance. Support requirements and print settings must be checked in the slicer. Assembly sequence: 1. Dry fit both frame tabs into the base sockets. The open portal goes in front; the solid wall with the star opening goes at the rear. Their outer engraved faces point outward. 2. Print the same roof STL twice. Turn one copy 180 degrees around the vertical axis relative to the other. The mitred long edges meet at the ridge. 3. Start each panel slightly above and outside its final position, with the channels and frame keys aligned. Guide it diagonally down and inward toward the ridge, at right angles to the sloping panel. Do not force a vertical drop. 4. Check alignment, fit and handling before painting or gluing. A small amount of compatible craft adhesive may be useful after the fit has been established. The joints locate the parts geometrically; they are not elastic clips. A secure friction fit, glue-free assembly, handling strength and stability have not been physically demonstrated. This is a digital design; actual printing, assembly and painting remain to be tested. The source script rebuilds all six unique STL files without external geometry. Dependencies: Python 3.11+, numpy, manifold3d, trimesh. From the folder containing the source: python build_gablenest.py --output ./rebuilt The assembly manifest records quantities, dimensions, hashes and transforms. DIGITAL VERIFICATION / VERIFICA DIGITALE Six unique STLs were independently checked for closed parts, print orientation, actual joint/coupon sections, roof bearing faces, final assembly and selected insertion poses. The original Holy Family meshes were checked at 100% scale on the real floor. One isolated source regeneration produced identical STLs. Six actual generic PLA 0.4/0.20 toolpaths were read, without supports, brim or skirt, within a 180 x 180 mm reference bed. This is not a validated machine profile. The roof exterior starts on four contact bands separated by the engraved seams, joined in later layers; bridge paths occur in the checked profile. Check first layer adhesion and bridges in your own preview. Joint corners and depths are quantized by the layer height; real fit and strength remain untested. Diagnostic estimates, not forecasts for your printer: Five structural pieces: about 201.4 g and 16h 49m, including two roof copies. Two joint test pieces together: about 6.75 g and 39 min. Re-slice for your printer.
